Video transcript:

I was saying to Mark that I met him in 2009, it was a crazy year, as you all know. We also had a crazy year at Cossette. Cossette was a public company. Mark has worked through, I think, three sets of ownership and there’s a fourth now. And at that time, we were public. I met Mark on a Thursday and we went through a hostile takeover on Saturday.

And it was just super clear that Mark was the right person and SATOV was the right agency.

SATOV made a huge difference to our business. And Mark, even though he gives me credit for knowing what to do, I really didn’t know what to do. Mark did a famous meeting at the time with our chairman – and that day actually changed the company fundamentally.

Because we were in trouble, in serious trouble. And he had the courage. And Sam and the team had the numbers to back it up, which said, like, you’re in trouble. And if you don’t do something about this and you don’t change things, you know, it’s not going to go well.

“We owe the success of our company to you and to Sam and to the group at SATOV genuinely. We would not be here as successful as we’ve been without you.”

I really admired that about Mark at the time because he really stood across from – I mean listen, Claude Lessard had 37 years of building this business you know, he was as famous as anyone in the ad business at the time in Canada – and yet, you know, Mark told it the way that it needed to be heard by Claude, at the time, and that just set off a whole bunch of changes in the company that made us much, much better.

It also led to us hiring SATOV five or six times after that to do many other gigs. And in fact, I think we recommended SATOV four or five times to other clients and they did a great job.

I work in the marketing services business. I know what professional service is like, managing clients every single day, especially when you’re doing it on a project basis and building a company that lasts twenty years and is successful for twenty years. It’s a serious accomplishment. And so congratulations, Mark to twenty years.

We owe the success of our company to you and to Sam and to the group at SATOV, genuinely. We would not be here as successful as we’ve been without you.
