VP, finance

Company Overview

SATOV is a growing management consulting firm based in Toronto. Founded in 2002, the firm is recognized as the leading boutique strategy consultancy in Canada. Our work spans growth strategy, operational excellence and M&A advisory. In addition to a group of recurring corporate clients, we have a strong and growing private equity practice with funds in Canada and the United States.

The SATOV value proposition is based on providing top-tier expertise with a practical edge. Our one-word motto is “relentless”. It describes our attitude and effort to get to the right answer for our clients.

Our internal culture is intense and performance-driven, but also close-knit and familial. Employees at all levels work together very closely on projects. The leadership of the firm is transparent about the strategy and operations of the firm. Team members are expected to participate frequently in business development and other firm-building activities.   We have an in-office culture and expect our team to be in the office four days per week.  We have a lean staff and expect managers to roll up their sleeves along with team members to get the job done.  The phrase ‘that is not my job’ is not used at SATOV.

We have a strategy and operations practice that executes mandates including M&A support and business strategy and operations.  We have a consumer insight business that serves consumer-based businesses directly and also works with the strategy and operations group on their B2C client mandates.

The next phase of growth in the business involves increasing our share of wallet with existing Canadian clients, expanding our penetration in the US, and adding service lines.  We are opening our second office in Montreal later this year.

Role Overview and Mandate

We seek a VP finance to support our next phase of our growth.  Included in the role will be typical finance functions (budgeting, financial controls, billing and receivables, payables, payroll, etc.) The CEO is looking for a partner to assist in making key decisions on items including but not limited to compensation, client pricing, Forex and other.  As we add staff, service lines and at least one new office, the VP finance will need to assist with proper business cases, budgeting and other governance.  As a member of the management team, we expect the new leader to be an active participant in key decisions.  In addition to financial functions the VP finance will manage other functions, such as facilities and IT.

The current management team consists of four managers who manage client engagements in addition to taking responsibility for an area of the firm’s management.  The VP finance will work closely with these managers.

Our ideal candidate would be well versed in all aspects of financial management of a professional services firm.  While we will train the new hire on our own firm dynamics, we assume they come fully formed and ready on finance.  We are looking for someone who is interested in a longer-term career and an interest in becoming a shareholder over time.   Ideal candidates will have at least 10 years experience working in a finance role and have had experience in business services.
