Mark Satov
Founding Partner

Mark began his business career early. At the age of 16, Mark and a friend sold t-shirts in downtown Toronto. Soon after he bought his friend out of the business and moved into promotional apparel, a business that he managed through University.
The family construction business in Montreal came next. The business was insolvent as Mark took over; he dealt with impatient suppliers and unforgiving banks. His experience there was the most formative of his career.
“My ability to relate to business leaders comes from my time at St. Lawrence…I know what it is like to get up every day and fight for survival.” Says Mark
Leaving the family business, Mark pursued an MBA at Duke, and then began his career in consulting at Bain & Company. Mark loved the craft of consulting but wanted to deal with clients in a way that was more relatable and approachable, a spirit lacking at most large firms. He formed SATOV in 2002, and the firm stands now as Canada’s leading boutique strategy consultancy.
Mark is direct and provocative. He asks questions others may miss. Clients rely on him to tell the truth when others may not.
His facilitation skills have repeatedly transformed strategic ideas into broadly adopted plans.
Mark’s work spans hundreds of companies across many sectors of the economy. He has particular depth of expertise in business services, building products and services and retail.
Mark works closely with private equity clients across North America, often investing with them side-by-side.
Business media seek his perspective. BNN, The Globe and Mail, Yahoo Finance, and CBC have all featured his commentary on business trends and market developments.
Mark embodies the relentless
spirit that sets SATOV apart.
